Tutoring

Tutoring is a free program that provides methodological and educational support and guidance. Initiated by the University of Montpellier, it aims to support students and promote their success in the PASS and LAS programs. It takes the form of sessions led by second- and third-year health sciences students, and is organized in exactly the same way across the University of Montpellier’s three campuses: Montpellier Medicine, Nîmes Medicine, and Pharmacy.

Tutors work under the supervision and responsibility of faculty members in the School of Pharmacy, in close collaboration with faculty members at other campuses of the University of Montpellier, with the goal of ensuring complete consistency in the services provided.

In addition to tutoring sessions, the ATP has organized various events to support students: orientation, pre-semester workshops, office hours, mock exams, preparation for oral exams, mentoring, meetings, social events, and more…

TUTORING SESSIONS

Tutoring takes place in the form of weekly sessions for groups of about 30 students, scheduled between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. These sessions are held in person for PASS students and online for LAS students.

During these sessions, the tutors—who are attentive and available to the students enrolled in the tutoring program—review the key points from the lectures already covered and provide practice multiple-choice quizzes supervised by the instructors. They address any difficulties or areas of confusion identified by the students while taking notes. These sessions are occasionally supplemented by review sessions, study skills workshops, and explanatory sessions on the most complex course material.

Tutoring covers all subjects in the various course units offered. ATP tutors also hold office hours to answer any more specific questions students may have.

TRAINING FOR THE EVENTS

Organized once per semester, students have the opportunity to practice during mock exams.
For these sessions, the ATP and tutors recreate conditions that are identical to those of the PASS exams (schedule, sequence of exams, breaks, number of exercises, time limit, seating arrangement, proctoring, and automated grading). For LAS students, the mock exam is conducted remotely. These exercises allow students to assess their knowledge and proficiency throughout the year and, as a result, adjust their study strategies accordingly.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

Belonging to the same generation as PASS and LAS students, the tutors are available, motivated, and bring with them not only their academic achievements but also their experiences from this unique year. They are committed to sharing their experiences with the students. To best help, support, and guide each student, the tutors undergo specialized training.

As a result, because they are approachable and understanding, they naturally serve as key points of contact to guide and provide moral support to exam candidates. Among other initiatives, in addition to study sessions, activities such as social events foster interaction and allow them to build even closer relationships with PASS and LAS students.

SPONSORSHIP

Mentoring is a voluntary support program offered by an upperclassman to a PASS or LAS student to provide support, guidance, and a listening ear by checking in with them regularly, in order to offer emotional support during this difficult and challenging year.

PRE-SCHOOL YEAR CAMP

The pre-semester orientation workshop, organized by the ATP and held on the Faculty’s campus, allows tutors to provide, through lectures and exercises, a review of key concepts and an overview of the entire first-semester curriculum for the PASS program. During this workshop, a tour of the Faculty’s facilities is organized (including a visit to the University Library and an introduction to student organizations) to familiarize students with their new learning environment and provide them with the best possible support as they transition into higher education. For LAS students, the workshop is conducted entirely online. The goal of this program is to introduce students to taking notes from handouts** and to prepare them for the exercises they will be required to complete in DS, in preparation for exams. This course thus helps students prepare for their first year in the PASS or LAS programs, while also enabling them to start the year with a solid work routine and better prepare for the academic year ahead.

** All course materials and exercises will be distributed at the beginning of the workshop.

The Back-to-School Camp will take place from Monday, August 18, through Friday, August 29, 2025.

The final exam will be held on Saturday, August 30.

The cost is €17.50 (for printing all the handouts for the two-week course plus the practice exam at the end of the course)

SPECIALIZED TUTORING
  • The HANDICAP tutoring program is an individualized tutoring program tailored to the student’s disabilities, with the same goal: success on exams. It is conducted under the same conditions as the PASS/LAS tutoring program.
  • The purpose of the FORMATION tutoring program is, in collaboration with the professor in charge of the program, to provide communication support and guidance to trainee tutors.
  • The DFGSP2 Tutoring Program, which is completely separate from the PASS/LAS Tutoring Program, aims to support students in their upper-level years and help them develop effective study strategies to ensure success on their future exams.
  • Tut’défoul: a weekly event organized by the tutors that combines sports and socializing, giving all PASS students at the Flahault campus a chance to get some exercise, chat, have fun, and—most importantly—relieve their constant stress.
BECOME A TUTOR

Tutors are students who have previously passed the PASS or a LAS and who wish to support first-year students. Students who apply are selected based on various criteria (resume, cover letter, academic standing, and exam scores) and through an interview with faculty members in their respective disciplines. Selected students enroll in a course unit that is part of their academic program: “Training for Qualified Tutor Roles,” which includes 15 hours of pedagogical and methodological training led by the professor in charge of the site, 15 hours of subject-specific training, and 40 hours of supervised practicum under the guidance of subject instructors. An end-of-year exam will validateTU allow students who were Trainee Tutors to become Qualified Tutors the following year by signing an employment contract with the University.
