Tutoring

Tutoring is a free methodological and pedagogical support system. Initiated by Montpellier University, its aim is to support students and encourage their success in PASS and LAS. It is organized in the form of sessions given by students in their second and third years of health studies, in a strictly identical way between the three sites of the University of Montpellier: Medicine Montpellier, Medicine Nîmes and Pharmacy.

Tutors work under the supervision and responsibility of Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers, in close collaboration with lecturers from other Montpellier University sites, to ensure total harmonization of the services provided.

In addition to its tutoring sessions, ATP has set up a range of events to support students: student welcome, pre-start courses, drop-in sessions, mock exams, oral exam preparation, mentoring, meetings, social events...

TUTORING SESSIONS

Tutoring is provided in the form of weekly sessions for groups of around 30 students, in time slots positioned between 12pm and 2pm or 6pm and 8pm. These sessions are face-to-face for PASS students and distance learning for LAS students.

During these sessions, the tutors, who are available to listen to the students enrolled in the tutoring program, go over the essential points of the lessons already given, and propose practice MCQs checked by the teachers. They are also on hand to deal with any difficulties or misunderstandings encountered by students during note-taking sessions. These sessions are punctually supplemented by reminders, methodology sessions and explanatory sessions on the most complex courses.

Tutoring covers all the disciplines of the various teaching units. ATP tutors are also on hand to answer any specific questions students may have.

TEST TRAINING

Organized once a semester, students have the opportunity to practice mock exams.
On this occasion, the ATP and tutors reconstitute conditions perfectly identical to those of the PASS exams (timetable, sequence of exams, breaks, number of exercises, time allowed, placement, supervision, automated correction). For LAS students, the mock exam is taken remotely. These exercises enable students to assess their knowledge and level during the course of the year, and thus modulate their revision methodology.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

From the same generation as the PASS and LAS students, the tutors are available, motivated and enriched both by their academic success and by their experience of this particular year. They are eager to share their experience with the students. Tutors follow a sentinel training program to provide the best possible support, guidance and reorientation for each student.

So, easily approachable and understanding, they naturally position themselves as privileged interlocutors to accompany and morally support exam candidates. Among other initiatives, in addition to work sessions, they also organize convivial events to encourage exchanges and enable them to be even closer to PASS and LAS students.

SPONSORSHIP

Sponsorship is voluntary help offered by an upper-year student to a PASS or LAS student, to support and accompany them, and to listen to them by regularly checking in on them, in order to help them psychologically during this difficult and testing year.

PRE-ENTRY COURSE

The ATP-initiated pre-reentry course, held on the Faculty's premises, enables tutors to present, in the form of lectures and exercises, reminders and an overview of the entire PASS first-semester program. During the internship, a tour of the Faculty's premises is organized (visit to the University Library, discovery of associations) to familiarize students with their new working environment and provide them with the best possible support in the world of higher education. For LAS students, the internship is entirely distance learning. The aim of this arrangement is to introduce students to note-taking on handouts**, and to prepare them for the exercises they'll be doing at DS, in preparation for exams. In this way, the course enables students to anticipate the PASS or LAS year, but also to start the year with a good work rhythm and to better tackle the year ahead.

** All course and exercise materials will be distributed at the beginning of the course.

The Pre-Reentry course will run from August 21 to September 2, 2023 and costs €15 (for printing all handouts for the 2-week course + the mock exam at the end of the course).

SPECIFIC TUTORING
  • HANDICAP tutoring is individual tutoring adapted to the student's disability, with the same objective: exam success. It is carried out under the same conditions as PASS/LAS tutoring.
  • The aim of the FORMATION tutoring program, in collaboration with the teacher in charge of training, is to help trainee tutors communicate and provide support.
  • The DFGSP2 tutoring program, which is totally independent of the PASS/LAS tutoring program, is designed to support students in their next year of study, helping them to acquire the optimum methodology for success in their future exams.
  • Le Tut'défoul : a weekly sports and sharing event organized by the tutors to enable all PASS students on the Flahault site to do a bit of sport, talk, enjoy themselves and, above all, relieve permanent stress.
BECOMING A TUTOR

Tutors are students who have previously passed the PASS or a LAS, and who wish to get involved with first-year students. They are recruited on the basis of a number of criteria(curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, grades and exam marks), and an interview with the subject teachers. Successful students enroll in a teaching unit as part of their university curriculum: "Qualified Tutor Training", including 15h of pedagogical and methodological training provided by the professor in charge of the site, 15h of subject-specific training and 40h of internship supervised by subject-specific teachers. An examination at the end of the year will validateTU and enable the student who was a trainee tutor to become a qualified tutor the following year, by signing an employment contract with the University.
