Certified internship supervisors

Since internships are an essential and complementary part of a university education, the role of internship supervisor is crucial. By becoming an internship supervisor, you will have the opportunity to introduce students to the profession of community pharmacist during their introductory internships starting in theirsecond year of study. You will then support them throughout their academic journey until they graduate.

Certification as an Internship Supervisor

To obtain certification and be able to supervise an intern at your pharmacy, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have been a licensed pharmacist (Section A or E of the Order of Pharmacists) or the manager of a mutual or mining pharmacy (Section D of the Order of Pharmacists) for at least two years
  • Provide proof of five years of pharmacy practice
  • Be up to date on continuing professional development (CPD) requirements by having participated in at least one training course over the past three years
  • Being committed to a quality initiative at the pharmacy

Accreditation is granted on a name-by-name basis and for a specific pharmacy for a period offive years. There are two application rounds per year: one for accreditation effectiveJanuary1 and one for accreditation effectiveJuly1.

In the event of a transfer or sale of the pharmacy, the license must be renewed.

The next application cycle for accreditation effective January 1, 2026, will take place in June 2025. If you are interested in becoming a training supervisor, please contact us by email.

Procedure

All applications for approval must be submitted by email to the School of Pharmacy.

Applications are reviewed by a faculty committee, with input from the Regional Council of the Order of Pharmacists and the Regional Health Agency. In particular, they base their assessment on the required professional experience, professional integrity, and the applicant’s current level of knowledge.

The Dean of the Faculty makes the final decision on applications.  

Applicants are notified of the decision no later than two months before the start of the accreditation period.
