Medical biologist pharmacist: at the heart of patient diagnosis and monitoring

A medical biologist is a pharmacist or physician specializing in analyses that aid in diagnosis. They play a central role in the care pathway: they guarantee the quality of analyses, validate results, guide interpretations, and contribute directly to medical decisions.

They work in hospitals or private laboratories in a wide variety of fields, such as:

  • Hematology, which studies blood disorders;
  • Bacteriology and virology, essential for detecting infections;
  • Biochemistry, which analyzes the parameters essential to the functioning of the body;
  • Genetics, which allows certain hereditary or acquired abnormalities to be identified;
  • Immunology and immunohematology, which are particularly important in transfusion medicine.

Present throughout the entire care process, medical biologists are key players in the healthcare system, combining scientific rigor, technological expertise, and clinical acumen.

To promote this profession and help high school students learn more about it, the Faculty of Pharmacy produced a video at Montpellier University Hospital, EFS Occitanie, and the Inovie Labosud Clinique Saint-Jean Sud de France medical biology laboratory, offering an overview of the daily lives of medical biologists.

The Faculty of Pharmacy wants to showcase the wide range of career opportunities available to pharmacy graduates. With this in mind, we are launching a series of videos highlighting different professions in the sector.
