HDR for dual-affiliation members

“The qualification to supervise research certifies recognition of the candidate’s high scientific standing, the originality of their approach in a scientific field, their ability to develop and implement a research strategy in a sufficiently broad scientific or technological field, and their capacity to mentor young researchers. In particular, it qualifies the holder to apply for appointment to the university faculty.”, Decree of November 23, 1988, regarding the qualification to supervise research—amended by the Decree of February 13, 1992, the Decree of July 13, 1995, and the Decree of April 25, 2002.

Applications for the qualification to supervise research at the University of Montpellier are organized as a single application round in the spring for those with dual affiliations. The specific dates for each stage and all the information needed to complete the application are detailed on the university’s website.

The UFR Search Committee is an advisory body responsible for the preliminary review of applications and the nomination of reviewers. It interviews candidates and submits its recommendations on the applications to the DRED.  

The criteria used by this research committee to grant authorization for the HDR defense will include, among others:

  • Supervision or co-supervisionof master’s students and DES students (research year), as well as at least one co-supervision of a doctoral student (at least 50%); such supervision must be evidenced by at least one publication in which the supervisor is listed as a co-author in a contributing role.
  • The quality and quantity (approximately 15) of publications, with a significant number in key positions (first, second, last, and second-to-last), published in internationally recognized journals (ACL with an Impact Factor > 1). The acquisition of patents or any other commercialization efforts should be noted.
  • Scientific outreach (including oral presentations such as lectures, seminars, and papers)
  • The record demonstrates an independent career path, including securing the necessary resources to carry out research, establishing national and even international collaborations, and taking responsibility for all or part of research projects
  • The candidate presents a clear and realistic research plan that is likely to lead to doctoral projects.
