Lecture titled “Simian Malaria: Understanding, Taking Action, Eliminating” by Sylvie Manguin

  • Event Type: Conference
  • Dates: January 29, 2024
  • Schedule: 5:00 p.m.–6:30 p.m.
  • Location: Lecture Hall J, School of Pharmacy

Sylvie MANGUIN, Research Director at IRD, a medical and molecular entomologist at the UMR Hydrosciences Montpellier, and recipient of the Academy of Sciences’ ASEAN Tremplin Prize, will present a lecture on innovative approaches to studying the transmission of simian malaria in endemic areas of Thailand.

Malaria, a parasitic disease whose pathogens are transmitted by mosquitoes, continues to be a global public health challenge. The study of simian malaria is of particular importance in Thailand, where its recent transmission has been on the rise. This lecture will explore the reasons behind this emergence, the biological characteristics of the vectors, the dynamics of transmission, and methods of vector control.

Sylvie Manguin’s research focuses on mosquitoes and their role in transmitting pathogens that cause diseases (malaria, dengue, chikungunya, etc.). This area of research has been identified as a priority in Thailand, where malaria elimination is scheduled to be achieved by 2025.

The conference is open to everyone.
