A campus committed to health: launch of the "Et si on fumait moins" project

Smoking remains a major public health challenge, and our campus is actively committed to reducing its impact with the "Et si on fumait moins" project , officially launched on November 25, 2024, in the presence of Dr Jérémie Charriot from Montpellier University Hospital. Supported by a grant from ARS Occitanie, this ambitious initiative aims to support smokers and vapoteurs, prevent exposure to passive smoking and raise awareness among the entire university community.

Clear, inclusive objectives

This project does not seek to stigmatize smokers, but to support them in their efforts to reduce or stop nicotine consumption, while raising awareness of the use of electronic cigarettes. Although used by some as a risk-reduction tool, e-cigarettes raise public health concerns, particularly among young adults. Our ambition is also to reduce the use of e-cigarettes and prevent their adoption by those who did not smoke in the first place.

At the same time, the project aims to protect the entire university community from the effects of passive smoking and to promote an exemplary campus in terms of public health.

Concrete actions for the community

To achieve these objectives, a number of initiatives will be implemented:

  • Recruitment of a tobacco nurse, available to all staff and students, for individual consultations.
  • Organization of specific workshops:
    • Stress management with a sophrologist,
    • Adapted nutrition to accompany weaning,
    • Adapted sports activities to support physical and mental well-being.
  • Clear signage to define smoking areas on campus.
  • Collect and recycle cigarette butts, to raise awareness of the environmental impact of tobacco.

A participatory project: call for contributions

We need your help! To bring this initiative to life, we're calling on the entire Flahault campus community to get involved:

  • Become a relay person: you'll be trained to organize awareness-raising activities and relay the project's key messages.
  • Join the steering committee: we're looking for smoker volunteers , students or staff, to contribute to the reflection, monitoring and evaluation of our actions.

Together for a healthier campus

This project is based on a collective dynamic. By joining forces, we can not only improve everyone's health, but also make our campus a model for health promotion.
