A Colleague Honored for Her Research

Caroline DESMETZ, an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences, recently receiveda 20,000-euro research grant from the French Society of Nutrition (SFN)to fund her research project, conducted at the“Biocommunication in Cardiometabolic ” (BC2M, EA7288) located within the faculty. The goal of this project is to understand how toprevent cardiac fibrosis, which is responsible for many heart problems associated with a condition that is very common in industrialized countries:metabolic syndrome, which currently affects 25 to 45% of men over the age of 40. This condition is currently very difficult to treat, making prevention a particularly promising approach.
These grants are intended for researchers under the age of 40. This award will enable him to gain a more precise understanding of the role of a process known as endothelial-mesenchymal transition in cardiac fibrosis, and how it can be prevented through a low-salt diet.
