National Hearing Day: Audiocampus Takes Action to Prevent Hearing Loss

Audiocampus, a research and training center in audiology located on the campus of the School of Pharmacy, is deeply involved in prevention and awareness campaigns regarding hearing risks. Audiocampus faculty members Jean-Luc Puel and Jean-Charles Ceccato, respectively president and vice president ofthe National Hearing Association (ANA), actively contributed to the 28th National Hearing Day (JNA), held in March.

The theme of this edition was the growing impact of video games on hearing health. A press conference at the Ministry of Health brought together several experts and journalists to discuss the challenges ahead and potential solutions. Jean-Charles Ceccato moderated the roundtable discussion on the need to raise awareness among young people about hearing risks and to promote healthy habits. Sound is crucial to the gaming experience, making prevention a delicate matter. The experts proposed innovative solutions, such as serious games, to better reach young gamers.

Another event was organized by the ANA at the National Assembly on March 13. Jean-Luc Puel, alongside François Gernigon, a member of Parliament, and Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, participated in an initiative aimed at raising awareness among lawmakers about hearing health issues. Several elected officials were able to test their hearing, becoming aware of high noise levels, including within the Chamber.

During the event, emphasis was placed on the need for greater integration of hearing health into public policy. The importance of rethinking the current approach, with a greater emphasis on prevention and reducing inequalities in access to care, was highlighted. In response, the government reaffirmed its commitment to prevention and reiterated the measures already in place, notably the reform of the 100% Santé program.
